Weekend Round Up

Cuchulainn's Liam Dolan made the long trip to Cranford, Co. Donegal on Saturday last to take part in the 80km JG Memorial. The race was a handicapped affair with the A3s given a 3min head start on the A1s and 2s. After 20km the bunches had all come together and over the next 30km the race was a constant flurry of attacks over the demanding terrain. With 30km to go a brake of 6 riders had emerged, which the hills further reduced to just 4 with less than 10km to go. At this stage the leading riders started to attack each other and with 6km to go Dolan took advantage of a brief lull to launch his attack. He quickly established a gap which continued to grow all the way to the line where Dolan took his first outright win of the season.

 

Over the weekend Newry promoted the traditional 3 Day race, which started on Friday and continued over Saturday and Sunday. The 4 man Cuchulainn team competed well with Alan Grey, Gerry McCabe, Alan Bingham and Aidan Cunningham all riding strongly. The race was won outright by Co. Down teenager Jake Gray for the second year in a row. Alan Bingham was consistent all weekend to take 10th position overall, while Alan Grey was 5th in the final stage to finish overall in the top 20.

 

On the time trial scene Cuchulainn promoted the 10mile Leinster and Louth Championship. Dublin's Ian Cassidy was the Leinster Champion with a blisteringly fast time of 20:47, while Mark Reilly was Louth Champion in a time of 21:16. Gerry McCabe took second in Louth, with third place been shared by Cuchulainn's Fran Egan and Peter Tomany. Celine McPhilip's time of 25mins was fast enough to take both the Louth and Leinster Championships.
