Sunday 23rd June saw 4 Cuchulainns travel down to Wicklow, the final round of the Irish XC NPS Series hosted at the ‘G Ride’ Glendalough and run by EPIC MTB. The course, a Robin Seymour inspiration which is only open once a year was in fantastic condition. Arguably one of the best private courses in the country with its switchback climbs reminiscent of a mini Alp D’Huez, berms, north shore sections and single track.
Shane Garvey and Fergus McCann racing in S3 both had excellent races on this very testing course, finishing strong in the middle of the field. Gary Sheils racing in S2 also had a great race, at one point progressing into the top 10 after a great over taking manoeuvre, unfortunately Gary had a couple of minor crashes which put him just outside the top ten to finish in 13th. Local Rás rider Ray O’Shaughnessy racing in S1 (Elite) was out to do battle with Irish Champion Robin Seymour, unfortunately a series of mechanical issues caused Ray to drop behind Robin to take 2nd place at the finish. Without a doubt, if Ray hadn’t suffered mechanical issues that the order on the podium could have been different. A great days racing by all the Cuchulainn’s who were representing the club in Wicklow.
