Eve part of Succesful Irish Campaign at Europeans

[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"182","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-medium wp-image-635","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"300","height":"200","alt":""}}]]Eve McCrystal was part of the 12 string Irish team that travelled to Ploeren, Brittany, France to take part in the European Police Cycling Championships from September 13th to 18th. Eve is a full time Gardaí based in the Monaghan town of Ballybay. The first event was the ladies team time trial, a race against the clock and other European nations over a 32km course. Eve was part of this team and did a lot of the pace setting early on. The team was well drilled & road fantastically to take the gold medal holding off the strong French and Italian. Afterwards a delighted Eve said it was one of the hardest rides she had ever done. The ladies had little time to rest of their laurels as next up was the 85km road race, where the organisers had managed to find plenty of hills. The Irish team was again to the forefront and great team work saw Ireland's Sandra Fitzgerald take the win. Eve as well as playing a huge role in Sandra's win also was part of the winning move & was just pipped for the bronze medal with a fine fourth place finish. All the more impressive as well as helping the winner and finishing in 4th place, Eve had to overcome a bike mechanical during the course of the race!

Another Dundalk cyclist making waves internationally was Ultan Coyle. Ultan originally from Bellurgan and a former Cuchulainn CC rider, moved to London a number of years ago. He now rides with the prestigious Rapha Condor team based in the city and recently won the UK National 24 Hour Time Trial. In this ultra endurance event cyclists must coverage as much distance as possible in 24 hours, solo and without stopping for sleep. Their support crew helps them out with food and drinks. Over the course of the day Ultan covered a staggering 489 miles, giving him an 8 mile winning margin. Coyle finished second in the event last year, held on the same course, but managed to add an additional 22miles this year!

On the weekend of September 29/30th the club will have it's annual overnight trip. This year riders will head to Trim, Co. Meath for a stay in the luxurious 5 star Knightsbridge Hotel. Details for signing up can be found at www.dundalkcycling.com
