Ray Fedigan gets Club's first win of 2012

Dundalk's Cuchulainn Cycling Club had a very successful weekend both on and off the road. Ray Fedigan made a markedly successful debut in his first open race, competing in the Irish Veterans Cycling Association's 2012 race league in Batterstown, Co. Meath on Sunday.  Ray was competing in the 3rd race of the day and had missed the break early on. He then attacked the main bunch, making a solo effort to get across to the leaders. Catching the break, he  drove the pace to ensure it stayed away from the now chasing bunch. Two kilometres from the finish the break split, with 3 riders including Ray getting away from the others. In a fast finish, Ray used the skills acquired  in the FPM Accountants Summer Cycling League to be first home.

Also in action during the day were National Champions Martin Gray and Sé Weston whom were both unlucky in their race to puncture within a few kilometers of the finish line. Jimmy Flynn, another club rider making his debut in IVCA racing, but a regular competitor in the Cuchulainn Club league, raced well in the second race and felt very comfortable at the finish.

The next big result for the club came in Glendalough in the Leinster Mountain Bike League. Here Aaron McCann took a fine second in the junior race. This is Aaron's first race of the season and after a solid winter's training is sure to grace the top step of the podium sometime soon. Stephen Kelleher was racing the S2 race, while John Grace, Fergus McCann, Tomny Kelly and Andrew Baldwin competed in the S3 event.

The final result of the season went to Michael Barry in the Stags Lucan Grand Prix on Saturday. Barry, a newcomer to Cuchulainn, joined Liam Dolan and Colm Quinn on the starting line in the race.
