2011 Season Kicks Off

The 2011 road racing season started on Saturday in Annaclone. The day's itinerary saw two races, a beginners B race and a race for the senior riders, a handicapped affair. The B race was held over 8 laps of a tough 5 mile circuit and it was here that Dermot Keelan placed a fined 8th to give the club it's first placing of the year. In the senior race the evergreen COlm Quinn was active throughout the day but failed to establish himself in the main break away of the day. Peter Collins always had a good first outing of the season.

Next weekend local club Newry Wheelers promotes the John Haldine memorial. Sign on opens at 9:30am at the Newry City Football club for a 10:30a, roll out. Again there will be 2 races, a handicapped main race and a shorter support race. The circuit is on the Warrenpoint dual carriage, an ideal circuit for beginners as it is very flat and non-technical.

Meanwhile behind the scene the club committee is hard at work on the Dundalk Cycling Park Velodrome. A recent trip to the Uk to meet with specialist track designers and builders yielded some very useful and insightful information.
