The National Youth Cycling Championships were due to be hosted by Cucuhulainn Cycling Club on August 19th, however high winds and stormy conditions meant the race was not safe to run. The event was rescheduled to Saturday last (September 2nd) in Derry and it proved to be a great outing for the club, especially in the under 15 girls. Here Ffionn Dolan sprinted home to an outstanding win and the club also won the team prize, with Holly McCaffrey in 5th and Grace O`Rourke in 7th. This capped an outstanding season for all 3 and bodes well for the upcoming cyclo cross season.
In the under 16 girls, big sister Rhiannon Dolan just lost out in the sprint for the gold to Aliyah Rafferty of Island Wheelers. An impressive result given that Rhiannon had been laid low with illness the last few weeks. Meanwhile in the Under16 boys Callum McCaffrey rode impressively to finish in 10th place in a very competitive field. Sean Delaney and Michael O`Rourke represented themselves well in their respective races,
Bellugran Wheelers also picked up another gold medal with Rian McCrystal once again proving how strong a rider he is. Rian was the clear winner in the Under 14 boys. He also doubled up to win the time trial as well, repeating his exploits as an under 13 rider in 2022.
