Dundalk's Cuchulainn Cycling Club had a good weekend on Sunday August 27th when it promoted the Leinster Road Race Championships, as part of the Traders Cup. The race was first run in 1946 when local shops in the town pooled their money together to sponsor the event. The 1st two editions were won by a Dundalk rider J Curran.
This year's event started on the outskirts of town and included a circuit which climbed Dromin Hill from the Ardee side, a daunting task for any cyclist. The main race had 5 ascents of the hill for a total of 107km and featured the best riders in the province battling for provincial medals.  Liam Dolan had a great race to be first A2 home.

In the support race for the Male 40, 50 and 60s the club picked up another 2 medals with Aidan Cunningham taking bronze in the Male 50s and the evergreen Jimmy Flyn taking silver in the M60s. Earlier in the week Jimmy also collected a national silver medal in the M60s in the time trial event held in Co. Wexford.
