Club remembers Sean Conlon

On Saturday last over 200 cyclists from Dundalk's Cuchulainn Cycling Club converged on the Glyde Inn, Annagassan to have a coffee & commemorate their old friend Sean Conlan, who passed away over 2 years ago from Cancer. Organised by Sean's good friend & fellow cyclist Mark Donnelly, they sat in the glorious sunshine to share their memories. Sean's widow Bernie provided the tea & coffee, while a collection for My Canine Companion raised over €550 for the charity.

Sean, originally from the Castlebellingham area though settled in Stabannon, was a late starter to the sport, after a life time supporting Liverpool & Dundalk Football Clubs. Like many, he started out with the legendary "Pat's Coffee Group" & made his way up the groups as he progressed making many friends along the way. He was always on hand to help out at any event, with his minibus transporting many cyclists too & from events throughout the country.  Each year a memorial cycle is held in his honor, with funds raised going to the Gary Kelly Center & the Birches Alzheimer's Day Care Center. This year's event takes place on August 10th from the Village Green in Castlebellingham, leaving at 10:30am

On the racing front the Bike Station Summer Cycling league continues to see local cyclists race the roads of a Thursday night. Round 13 saw Paul McCartney take a great win ahead of Aidan Delaney in second & Gavin Traynor in 3rd, a clean sweep for the club and John Lennon slihtly further back in 9th. The accompanying Challenge League was won by Aidan Short.

Round 14 saw a finish at the Long Woman's Grave, which mean't a lot of climbing to get there! This time Paddy Holdcroft won the Challenge League ahead of Barry Haughey. In the main league, Bryan McCrystal took a brake from dominating triathlons around the country to dominate the cyclists, taking the win ahead of Liam Dolan when the 2 had forged clear of their rivals. Next home was defending champion Thomás McCabe
