Cuchulainn Cycling Club hosted a day of cyclo cross racing on Sunday last and it proved to be a very fruitful day. Despite the terrible weather, there was a huge turn out and some great racing. The club's first big success of the day came when Shane Meegan won a hard forth battle to claim the chequered flag in the under 10s race. Shane has made massive strides so far this winter & was truly deserving of his 1st win. In the under 10 girls the club took another 2 podium spots with Alicia Duffy and Nessa Casey-McCrystal in 2nd & 3rd.
The under 12s saw the biggest field of the day and the club won both the boys and girls races. Callum McCaffrey took an early lead, then suffered a mid race accident, but remounted to fight his way back to the front to take the win ahead of another Cuchulainn rider Oliver O'Shaughnessy. In the girls races Rhiannon Dolan made it 2 wins in 2 weeks and again she had her sister Ffionn for company on the podium in 3rd place. In the same race Grace O'Rourke was desperately unlucky as after riding in 3rd place all day she suffered mechanical on the final lap. However in a great show of club spirit herself and Ffionn shared the final step of the podium.
The under 14 boys saw a clean sweep of the podium for the club with Cillian O'Shaughnessy winning ahead of Eoin Holmes and his twin brother Conor O'Shaughnessy.
Finally after he kids racing was done and the skies opened the mens race got underway. Stuart Holding of Cuchulainn took an early lead and looked very strong, before retiring to a puncture. Karl Dolan then took the lead, which he held all the way to the line. With perfect timing as the men crossed the line the pizza delivery arrived and was a welcome sight for the wet and tired cyclists.
