Oldcastle Cycling club will be hosting the Leinster Cyclo Cross Championships next month and on Sunday last they hosted the warm up event. The venue was Drewstone House, just outside of Kells, Co. Meath and it proved to be a very successful day for Cuchulain's rider's.
The first event of the day was the under 10s and in the girl's race the club went first and second, with Nessa McCrystal & Rowan Whelan respectively. In the under 10 boys Shane Meegan battled back from a mechanical to take 3rd.
In the under 12 girls it was another club one two for sisters Rhiannon & Ffionn Dolan. In the same race Grace O'Rourke was unlucky to be involved in an early crash however, she managed to fight her way back up through the filed but just missed out on a podium finish. In the under 12 boys Callum McCaffrey came 2nd. Also in the under 12 boys, Lochlain Carey and Felim Teggart made their competitive debut and both demonstrated that they were well fit to mix it up with more experienced cyclists. In total the club had 15 riders competing across the various underage categories.
In the senior B race Ray Fedigan had his best ever finish in a cyclo cross race to take 3rd place in the race, and this added to his consistent form in the Oldcastle league seen him also claiming 3rd overall in the league. Stuart Holden suffered a mechanical problem but managed to fight his way back to 5th place.
