Medals at Irish MTB Marathon Champs

Ballyhoura in County Limerick played host to the Irish Marathon Champions on Sunday September 24th. The main event featured 65km of tough mountain road and track, which took well over three hours for the leaders to complete. It proved a fruitful day for Cuchulainn's off road cyclists with the club picking up two medals.

In the senior event Ravensdale's Ray O`Shaughnessey claimed the silver behind Gareth McKee of Banbridge. McKee has picked up a number of big wins this year both home and abroad, and hopes to qualify for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The race was really a 2 horse affair with third place, Chris Mollaghan of Dublin, being well over 20mins behind the leading pair.

In the Masters 50 race Cuchulainn's Aidan McDonal came agonisingly close to the win, finishing just 30sec behind Michael Jordan. In the same event Johnny McCabe also of Cuchulainn, was close to the medals also in fifth position. Meanwhile his brother Declan was unlucky to suffer a mechanical that ended his race.
