Eight cyclists headed over to Mallorca on Monday May 25th May for a week of cycling in the sun. This wasn’t a training camp, this was just about getting out for a spin in the morning, going out exploring and taking advantage of the glorious sunshine. We had such a great time here- serious craic from the word go. We only had 2 overcast days with a bit of rain, but it didn't last long. 5 glorious days made up for it. We flew out the Monday before the Mallorca 312 sportive. We stayed in Playa de Muro- where the sportive was starting and finishing. Options for a return visit would be Pollenca or Can Picafort- both are just up the road.
We came up with the idea to go in September. Flights were immediately booked at this time as prices started going up shortly after. Bikes were also hired at this time. There are numerous bike hire companies over there, offering a great choice of bikes from mid to top of the range. They can be hired on a weekly or daily basis.
Hired bikes were delivered on Monday and we were on them shortly after. The spin to Cabo de Formentor (The Lighthouse) had amazing views and climbs - our favourite spin. We had the roads to ourselves. Heads Up- Go Early!! The lads loved the descents. There were a few hair pin bends to negotiate.
Pollenca is a place you could just stay all day. We went there on market day .The temptation just to stay there was hard to resist. Can Picafort is a lively place. Numerous cycling holiday packages are available but we did it ourselves. We went out every day, referred to a map for directions and set out. Routes to suit all abilities and experience are on offer. There is always another town just up the road. This trip was just brilliant because of the company.
It would be great if this were to become an annual Leisure Section Event...
