Round 17 of the Bike Station League

By Rosemary Gibson

Round 17 of the Bike Station League was up and down the dreaded Sportsman's circuit, down to the Major's Hollow roundabout four times and up the drag to the Sportsman's with three times round the Blackgate roundabout with that punchy little climb back up to the start/finish area at the Sportsman's / Rosewood Country Club.

There were three Cuchulainn ladies racing, Marcella Leonard in group one, Rosemary Gibson in group two and Celine McPhillips in group four.

It's fair to say that none of the girls had an easy race but all fought valiantly on to finish the unrelenting draggy circuit.

It was good to see Marcella after a few weeks away, not an easy circuit to come back to after a break.

Celine and Rosemary have had a busy triathlon season competing in the National Series and National Championships, with Celine having already qualified for the World and European Championships and Rosemary currently eighth in her age group in the National Rankings.

Rosena Lynch was marshalling last night but has an unassailable lead at the top of the women's points classification, and is also topping Race 2, Group 2 and is fifth overall in the league table. Well done Rosie, what a great result for your first season racing!

As always it was great to see so much support from the ladies who weren't racing, it really makes a difference and is a great encouragement.

On Thursday the Louth and Leinster Hill Climb championships is on up Jenkintown, one last opportunity for some self-inflicted torture. If that doesn't appeal, come and watch anyway and cheer on your club mates!

Round 18 next Tuesday, the last one, is the fast and furious 26 km Fane Bridge to Dunleer roundabout and back circuit.
