Sé Weston is pipped for the win by the smallest of margins by Bray's Damien Doyle

The difference between winning & losing in cycling can sometimes come down to millimeters! Sé Weston learned this the hard way in the latest IVCA league race in Summerhill on Sunday last. Bray Wheeler's Damien Doyle edged out Sé by the slimiest of margins after Sé had jumped from the main bunch to catch Doyle, whom had been on a solo attack from 30km into the 60km race. After catching Doyle, Sé was the stronger rider but just couldn't shake the Wicklow riders & in the sprint for the finish as both riders lunged their bikes towards the line, Doyle just had is timing that fraction better. Other Cuchulainn riders Jimmy Flynn and Ray Fedigan finished less than a minute behind in the main bunch.

Meanwhile Round 4 of the club mountain bike league saw a fast night in Bellurgan Park. Daragh Maloney was the night's winner, leading home Ryan Malone and Conor Kavanagh in second and third respectively. Daragh is a newcomer to the league with the previous week being his first outing, however its clear it didn't take him too long to find his feet. At this stage Michael Wilson sits on top of the league with an 11 point lead over Ed Lenox - Cunningham, with Conor Kavangh in third.

Round 8 of the FPM Accountants Summer Cycling League had the racers go from Sextons out to the Dunleer rounadabout, crossing over the M1 en route to Ardee and home to a sprint finish. Once again Group 2 rode very strongly to catch Group 1 and hold off the faster groups behind. As they approached the line a group of 12 were lining up for the sprint and Kenny Sullivan was the fastest on the night showing a clean pair of heels to all. Marcus O`Cuinn claimed second spot from Brendan Neary in 3rd, while Shane Lennon and Gary Morton rounded out the top 5. Gary was unlucky not to take the win, as it was a lot of his strong riding, with very few fit to work with him, that ensured the group stayed away.  Meanwhile behind him Paul McGee led home the scratch racers, ahead of Sean loughran and Aidan Cunningham. The next round has the daunting finish at the top of Flagstaff!

Following on from the Fun Cycle Day and High Nelly Cycle  in St. Helenas Park on June 17th the next big club event will be the return of the unique Summer Solistice Cycle. This event, which was launched last year, saw a group of riders depart Dundalk at dusk and ride to the Spire on Dublin's O'Connel Street, before returning home for a hot breakfast in the Crowne Plaza. The event was a great success and will return on June 21st again this year and as before front & rear lights are a must! More details will be posted at www.dundalkcycling.comcloser to the event
