MTB League Round 4
Tuesday 4th June saw round 4 of the Cuchulainn MTB league being contested on the open mountain, the course comprised of 8.2km of open mountain racing covering all terrain types, climbs and technical descents..
The fantastic weather that we’ve been enjoying over the previous week or so had ensured that the mountains were dry, dare I say dusty. 19 riders, including Dr Maeve Baxter (Irish Downhill Champion) signed up for the 7pm start on the first of many open mountain type races.
The nights racing proved to be not only technically challenging but extremely competitive with a lot of the riders with the bigger handicaps making up the times and coming through the field within the final 1.5km with only the steep climb up and technical descent down the locally known “White Knuckle Ride” to the finish line left to negotiate. Unfortunately some of our riders in the heat of the battle, failed to notice the directions and found themselves “off the reservation” much to the amusement of the rest of the riders. This week’s post mortem and tall tails were shared at the Lumpers bar over “Draught High5”, the craic was great and the ninja midges were out in droves.
