Cuchulainn's racing cyclists were in action in Bohermeen & Batterstown on Sunday last. As is always the case in the IVCA racing the club had a strong a presence with Martin Grey, Sé Weston, Ray Fedigan, Greg Flynn & Dominic O'Brannagain all pinning on a number. They were active throughout, driving the pace & attempting a number of times to escape, however they were heavily masrked & not allowed any lee way. In the sprint finish Ray took a fine second place, with the rest of the club's riders safely in the bunch.
Down the road from Batterstown in Bohermeen there was a full days racing. Richard Murphy was making his debut in the A3 racing category & while definitely a step up from before he was by no means out of his depth. Meanwhile his colleagues kept the flag flying in the A4 category, with Val Gragan just coming agonisingly close to a place on the podium, finishing in 4th position. This result coupled with his win in Navan back in March will mean that Val will soon be joining Murphy in the A3 category. In the ladies race the club had 3 women racing with Lisa Neary lining up alongside Annette Dawe & Breda Murphy. All 3 were active throughout & finished in the main bunch, behind the breakaway winner Anne Dalton.
While the road league is back in full swing, May 14th will see the Mountain Bike League commence. The league will be held at Bellurgan Park & also on a number of courses starting from the Lumpers. Last year's league was a real battle between Ed Lennox & Gary Mroton, with Lennox eventually winning out on the last day of the league.
