Cuchulainn's neighbours Newry Wheelers promoted the John Haldane Memorial on Sunday last. The race featured laps of the 15.5km Warrenpoint carriageway circuit.
The main race was a handicapped affair for the A1, A2 and A3 raiders. Myles McCorry lined up in the A2 bunch alongside Aidan Cunningham. In the A3 bunch Karl Dolan, Paul McGee & Alan Bingham all signed on. The A1 riders quickly made up the ground to the bunches in front and when they did the race winning break quickly slipped away without any Dundalk men. Myles McCorry, whom also raced in carryduff on Saturday,
managed to get into a break on the last lap and come home just outside the top 5.
In the support race Dundalk had a plethora of riders sign on, Johnny McCable, Declan McCabe, Gary Sheils, David McKeown, Ray Fedigan & Doiminic O'Brannagain. The race finished in a mass sprint, where Gary & David were both just outside the top 6. Unfortunately Doiminic and Ray were caught up in a crash on the run to finish, however both riders were ok bar some scrapes.
Next Sunday the action will move to Meath for the Waller Cup promoted by Bohermeen Cycling CLub, in the village of Bohermeen. The race will see the debut of underage riders New Week is Bohermeen where Aimhirghin & Cuirithir O'Brannagain in the Under 16 event. Both have been training all winter with the senior men and are expected to perform well on Sunday.
Also next Saturday a large group of Cuchulainn's female riders will travel to mullingar to take part in a Cycling Ireland Performance camp, where they are sure to pick up plenty of information from Ireland's top cycling coaches. The ladies will be sharing cars so anyone interested in going contact Annette Dawe at 086 3839681
