Golds for Partners, Silvers for Brother & Sister. Leinster 10mile TT Champs

Thursday last saw Cuchulainn Cycling Club host the Leinster 10mile Time Trial Championships, which despite the bad weather, had cyclists from across the province travel to try & secure a provincial medal. Fastest on the night was Dublin based rider Ryan Sherlock of Cycleways, who made a mockery of the blustery conditions with a time of 20:27, with only 6 seconds to spare over Cuchulainn's Byran McCrystal. Andrew Meehan of Meath, was in bronze some 2 minutes back on the 2 front runners. Ironically Shelock's partner Melaine Spaths, of Cycleways, took the women's title, while it was Brian's sister Eve who took the silver with times of 23:03 and 23:53 respectively. Orla Hendron of Orwell Wheelers was in 3rd. Other Cuchulainn members to claim titles were golds for Owen Martin and Gerry McCabe in the A3 and veterans categories whille Peter Tomany and Jordan Flood claimed bronze medals in the A3 and junior categories. In total 43 riders competed on the night, a feat in itself given the wind & rain.
The country's mountain bike National Points Series moved to Killareny, Co. Kerry for the most recent round. Underage sensation Aaron McCann made it a worth while trip when he took second place in the junior race. His father Fergus competed in the senior 3 race and just broke into the top 25. Also off road, in the club's mountain bike league Ed Lenox-Conyngham further cemented his place at the top of the leader board with another podium position in round 6. On the night Ed took second position behind Niall O`Flaherty, with Jason Malone in 3rd. Second in the table Terry McEneaney failed to score any points on the night & now has a big deficit of 13 points to make up on Ed.Stephen Kenny, who placed 6th on Tuesday night is over 30 points behind Ed in 3rd spot in the league. With another 6 rounds to gon and given Ed's impressive form it is hard to see him been overtaken for the lead, but you never know! The next round of the league on June 19th will also double up as the Louth Mountain Bike Championships.
In the ladies league Celine McPhilips made it 2 from 2 with a commanding win in the first road race of the league. Riding in the scratch group Celine and Co swept all before them & the scratch riders dominated the podium with Celine, leading Keri Campbell in second and Fiona Rogers in 3rd. Young Lisa Neary had a hugely impressive ride to not only be able to hang with the scratch riders once caught but she also mixed it up with them in the sprint and take an amazing 5th position on the line.
Bike racing is returning to Dundalk's town center next Saturday night when the club hosts the Louth Criterium Championships as part of National Bike Week. This fast & furious style of racing will be held on closed streets using a short ciruit, which makes for a great spectacle. Dundalk men will look to dominate proceedings but as the event is open to riders either living in Louth or riding with a Louth registered club, there is riders expected to partake from the Drogheda, Newry, Stamullen, Navan and Bohermeen clubs.
