The bright sunshine meant another night of racing with in excess of 50 riders signing on for the FPM Accountants Summer Cycling League. Again 6 different groups took to the road with almost 30mins spacing them out. The first group off only had 6 riders, however it was these 6 that were first home. This group contained teenager Aimhirghin O Brannagain, veteran John McLoughlin, along with the ladies Suzy Mackin, Annette Dawe and Kathleen Byrne. It was the more experienced members of the group that drove the pace and ensured that they stayed away, however it was a close call as on the line only 100meters separted this group from the second. Taking the flag was O`Brannagain, from McLoughlin and Dawe in 3rd.
Further behind them the handicapping system worked perfectly with the bunches coming together just on the line. The sprint here was fast and scratch rider Karl Dolan opened it up, however Alan Gray spotted that his was the wheel to follow and followed Dolan's early acceleration. Also quick to react were Dermot Keelan and Gerry McCabe. Dolan did not have the lungs to hold out to the line and Gray accelerated around him to take the points on offer for the scratch prize. Keelan was 2nd here with McCabe in 3rd.
The next round of the league will be held on the Ravensdale Circuit, sign up is at Major's Hollow.
