Dundalk's Cuchulainn Cycling Club was awarded Cycling Club of the Year at Cycling Ireland's gala prize giving ceremony in Athlone on Saturday last (November 20th). The award was voted for by the members of Cycling Ireland and was awarded in recognition of the great strides the club has made over the past number of seasons. The club has launched initiatives for underage cyclists, beginners, ladies, road and mountain bikers. The award was testament to the great work put in by various club members over the year, from bringing the international Ras to Dundalk, to assisting the town council with an introduction to cycling day in St. Helena's Park. Commenting on the award club president Pat O`Shaugnessy said "This is a great achievement for our club and to achieve it in our 75th anniversary year makes it that bit more special". The award will be on display at the club's Gala Prize night on December 4th in the Fairways Hotel.

In addition to getting the Club of the Year award, Cuchulainn also picked up another award when June's Tour of Louth, as organised by the club, was awarded "Leisure Event of the Year" beating off stiff competition from events such as the Sean Kelly An Post Tour series and the long running Wicklow 200km. The event held in June was only in it's third year and attracted well over 100 participants. The route stayed true to it's name, all 100km being within the county, the highlight being the climb of Jenkinstown.
