It was a full weekend of racing for Cuchullainn Cycling Club with Stamullen CC promoting events Friday, Saturday & Sunday, the IVCA league in Battersown on Sunday & Saturday's racing in Bangor, Co. Down. The weekend started on a good note for the club when former FPM Accountants Summer League winner Jordan Flood was 3rd Junior in Friday evening's Brendan Carrol Memorial road race. The race was a handicapped affair & finished in a bunch sprint. On Saturday Bryan McCrystal was again in action in the north in the North Down Grand Prix, once again Bryan was the driving force behind the winning break of the day & in the sprint for the chequered flag moved up one place on last week's fourth to finish on the podium in 3rd.
On Sunday the majority of the club's riders descended on Stamullen for the Stamullen Grand Prix. In the A4 race the grueling climb, that was tackled 3 times, saw a select group arrive at the finish line & in a fast & furious sprint Dermot Keelan was narrowly pipped for the win by Joesph Breney of UCD. In 3rd place was Richard Murphy, who has added to his other results achieved this season. Earlier in the A3 race Thomas McCabe finished just outside the top 10 in 11th.
Also on Sunday was the 3rd round of the IVCA league where the club's riders have been so dominant this season. In the first race of the day, despite being heavily marked, Sé Weston & Martin Grey were part of the winning break, that consisted of 10 riders. In the sprint for the flag Grey lead out Weston who claimed second position with Grey in 5th.In the 2nd race of the day Ray Fedigan also made his way into the break & claimed 4th across the line.
Finally on Sunday seven brave souls from Cuchulainn headed to Co. Donegal to tackle a very long & hilly sportive. The 130km route, which seemed to cover every mountain in the county, was made all the more difficult with 110km gusts of wind throughout the day. However all the club's riders braved the conditions & successfully made it home.
